What is the JLA?
The Ely Dojo Junior Leader Academy is a structured leadership and coaching programme for talented young judoka aged 12–18. It is not a volunteering role or a coaching assistant position — it is a genuine pathway from athlete to qualified coach, built on the judo philosophy of Jita Kyoei: Mutual Benefit.
JLA members give their time and skill to support younger members of the club. In return, they receive mentorship, professional workshops, a formal qualification pathway, and the kind of personal development that lasts a lifetime.
|
THE EXPERIENCE More Than JudoJLA members become genuine role models within the club — working directly with younger judoka, building real coaching relationships, and experiencing the deep satisfaction of watching someone they have taught grow and succeed on the mat. They develop patience, communication, and leadership skills that go far beyond the dojo. Many of our JLA graduates describe it as one of the most formative experiences of their lives. |
